This program was intended to inform and educate the participants on the importance of food safety and how to achieve it, and was attended by one hundred of 4-6 graders from ten state elementary schools (SDN) in Central Jakarta, and their parents and teachers.
The participating schools were SDN Johar Baru 01 Pagi, SDN Kramat Jati 06 Pagi, SDN Rawasari 01 Pagi, SDN Johar Baru 10 Pagi, SDN Johar Baru 31 Pagi, SDN Johar Baru 09 Pagi, SDN Cempaka Putih Barat 09 Pagi, SDN Cempaka Putih Timur 02 Petang, SDN Kramat Jati 07 Petang, and SDN Kramat Jati 08 Pagi.
This program was conducted in three classrooms. The first was for Film POMPI, the second for How to Wash Your Hands Properly, and the last for Little Chefs. The whole program was then concluded with a presentation of the directives to food safety, which were divided into three subject matters: “Our Snacks Area Healthy, Aren’t They?”, “Health Starts from Ourselves” and “POMPI and School Canteen”.
A puppet show film was shown in the Film POMPI class. In this film the hero Pompi and his friends were telling people about how to choose healthy and safe snacks to consume and how to wash hands properly. The film was followed with a Q&A session and a quiz for the participants on food safety. They were divided into 3-4 workshop groups and asked to create their own puppets and course materials on food safety to be staged on the so-called POMPI Puppet Show.
In the second class, a film, titled “Akibat Salah Makan” (The Effect of Consuming Unhealthy Food) was shown first before three participating 3rd graders practiced the so-called “10 Steps of Proper Hand Wash”. The whole session in the second class was concluded with a presentation on food safety, “Health Starts from Ourselves”. In the last class, three little chefs made a demo on how to make safe sandwiches to consume. They showed the class participants the steps to prepare their own food for safe consumption.•••
